Framing and sheet rock are underway at Altamira Properties’ Highland Park Gem House. After fussing with the floor plans several times we have found the perfect layout. By blowing out a bedroom wall we have made a bigger master suite with two closets. We have also managed to squeeze more room out of the bathroom while providing more private entrances to both upstairs rooms.
Downstairs we have a great layout with two bedrooms, bathroom, washer/dryer and storage plus a large family room. While we are busy picking out paint, tile and fixtures for our soon to be finished basement, out contractor is hard at work getting the house framed up. Sheet rock is already installed in several rooms and the house is starting to look like a home instead of a construction site. Its always exciting to see the image in your head evolving into a real thing and we are quite happy with the progress of our Highland Park Gem. Expect this baby to be ready to list by Valentine’s Day!
One of the other exciting things we are finally wrapping up are the egress windows in the two downstairs rooms. We had to dig two massive holes, cut through lots of concrete and make several trips to the gravel quarry, but we are now ready for our super efficient egress windows to be installed. It was a lot of work, but we are very serious about doing things right and by the book. That’s why we unloaded a ton of gravel into each window well (to prevent flooding) and why we are installing these specialty windows in the first place. Whoever lives here will have energy efficient dual-paned bedroom windows which will also provide a means of escape in case of emergency.
In closing, we are making great headway on this house and are super excited about the things to come in the the next few weeks. Now we are getting into the coolest part of the rehab process. As soon as sheet rock is up we can start focusing on the details that will make this place a home. Stay tuned!
